Business Manager (Full Time; 37.5 hours per week)

The McHenry Public Library District is seeking an individual to be responsible for all of the library financials, including daily accounting and balancing, monthly reports, and audits. This position is also responsible for processing a bi-weekly payroll, managing office supplies and preparing for monthly Library Board meetings.

Specific duties include:

Accounting

  • Maintains accounting data in QuickBooks
  • Reconciles bank statements and makes necessary adjustments
  • Works with outside accountants
  • Maintains and manages customer accounts
  • Handles all purchases for furnishings and equipment
  • Prepares the library for daily business operations by preparing cash drawers and records daily receipts
  • Assists in the preparation of and monitors budget
  • Creates and maintains records according to record keeping requirements

Payroll

  • Prepares and manages the time keeping system
  • Manages and processes a bi-weekly payroll
  • Maintains employee privacy

Administrative

  • Assembles board meeting packets, may attend Board meetings (if needed)
  • Provides confidential administrative support to Executive Director and Assistant Director
  • Maintains and orders office supplies

Desired qualifications include:

  • Associates Degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounts payable, experience in a government agency or non-profit preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software, QuickBooks preferred

Youth Services Librarian  (Full time; 37.5 hours per week)


The McHenry Public Library District is seeking a creative, energetic and friendly librarian to serve as the Early Literacy Specialist in our Youth Services Department.  This position will use resources like Every Child Ready to Read® as a way to develop early literacy skills in young children and promote early literacy to families to encourage library usage.  Additionally, this position will work the Public Services Desk shared with Adult Services to assist all patrons with reference, readers’ advisory and technology instruction.

Qualifications include:

  • MLS degree (or equivalent work experience)
  • Knowledge of childhood development phases, trends in pre- and early literacy education, reading skill development
  • Knowledge of current and classic children’s literature
  • Proficient with computers and library technology
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Custodian (Maintenance)  (Full time; 37.5 hours per week)


The McHenry Public Library District is seeking an experienced custodian to join our Building Services team. This position is responsible for ensuring all library areas are well maintained/clean and perform some maintenance work. The position performs a variety of tasks which includes maintaining the interior and exterior of the building. May require evening hours and weekend hours.

Qualifications include:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience preferred
  • Valid Driver's license with experience driving pickup/snowplow and forklift desirable
