Assignment Alerts
If you’re planning a special assignment let us know! By sending us an "Assignment Alert" to let us know of your upcoming projects and assignments we can better serve both you and your students!
We can work with you to determine the best way to share library resources depending on how much material the library owns on your specific topic, how many students receive the assignment, and how long the students have to complete the assignment.
Some options available are:
- We can put all materials needed on the "Homework Reserve Shelf" that limits the books to "in-library use only" so all students can use them at the library.
- We may limit the number of books checked out on a specific topic by an individual student and/or shorten the loan period.
- You can request specific books to be pulled in advance, and then checked out to our Teacher Outreach Program for an extended load period so students can use the materials in the classroom.
Please provide the following information when you contact us:
- Teacher's Name & Email Address
- School Name & Phone Number
- Description of Assignment & what type of materials are needed
- Assignment Dates
- Grade Level & Number of Students
To create an Assignment Alert contact the YPS Department at 815-385-0036 or fill out the form here and select "Assignment Alert".
Classroom & Teacher Checkouts
When teachers or school librarians want to checkout MPLD’s books and audio/visual materials for in-classroom use, we encourage teachers or school librarians to contact us to have materials checked out through the Teacher Outreach
Program. Some materials may be available for an extended loan period. Schools are responsible for lost or damaged items.
Teachers checking out materials for their own use should register their home library card at the MPLD Checkout Desk in order to receive borrowing privileges

Library Tours
The best way for students to learn about the library and what it offers is to see it for themselves!
Library tours are available for all grade levels and can be geared to your specific needs.
For grades K-3, we normally take students on a tour of the library including a look behind the scenes, a discussion on how to use the library and take care of library materials, and a storytime.
For grades 4 and up we take students on a tour of the library, then use the remaining time to meet the teacher's specific needs. Students can come in to use our materials for research purposes, learn to use our library catalog and other eResources, enjoy book discussions and booktalks, and much more!
To book a library tour please contact the YPS Department at 815-385-0036 or fill out the form here at least two weeks prior to tour date requested.
We also invite you to visit for a personal tour and a discussion of the various resources available to you and your students.
Classroom Visits
Members of the YPS staff are available for classroom visits. We can discuss library services, perform story times, book talk new and subject related books and highlight on-line services.
We are also able to attend evening events, such as Family Reading Nights or PTA Meetings. For these type of events we can hand out information about library services and events and also sign residents up for library cards. Please contact us if you are interested in having us come to your school!
