Access to Database Resources
Acceptable Use Policy

All McHenry Public Library District residents who have been issued a McHenry Public Library District Library card are automatically registered to use the Library's remote access services. The Library card number is used for authentication. Your access to remote resources will expire at the same time your Library card expires.

McHenry Public Library District makes these databases available for use by registered Library cardholders only; by license agreement, databases may not be used by individuals, businesses, or institutions, not registered with McHenry Public Library District. These resources are made available for reference use only. Use of database content is governed by copyright and vendor license agreements. Contents may not be compiled, copied, or redistributed in a manner contrary to the provisions of these laws and agreements. McHenry Public Library District will suspend Library privileges and revoke accounts of patrons found to be in violation of these policies.

Users may not do anything to damage or compromise the integrity of the Library's remotely accessible resources. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Divulging to another person or institution your Library account information for their use

  • Excessive downloading of data

  • Using, or allowing others to use, data to compile, enhance, verify, supplement, add to or delete from any mailing list, geographic or trade directories, business directories, classified directories, classified advertising, or other compilation of information which is sold, rented, published, furnished, or in any manner provided to a third party.

Note:  You cannot listen to eAudiobooks on an iPod or other portable device that does not support playback of secure or protected wma files. The library cannot be responsible for patrons’ equipment that is damaged while downloading digital audiobooks and eBooks.
