Welcome to the McHenry Public Library & Friends of the McHenry Public Library’s
TAG ALONG READERS PROGRAM!
Reading is a skill that will be used your whole life. Fostering a love for reading in youth is important, not just until Kindergarten.
The McHenry Public Library's new Tag Along Readers program is a new way to encourage reading in kids starting in Kindergarten until they enter 5th grade. This programs encourages kids to develop healthy reading habits and reading on their own.
How do I Register?
Stop by the Library's Questions Desk and ask to sign up your child in the program.
This program is for children in grades K-5 and a family member must be a McHenry Public Library cardholder.
What Next?
Now that you’ve registered your child, just follow these steps:
- Read with your child.
- Track Your Reading. There are a total of 10 logs, 25 books per log. As you read a book, color in a circle. There is a book genre suggestion on each log that encourages readers to branch out and explore new genres and enjoy reading.
- 25-Book Milestones. Each time 25 books have been read, come into the library to receive and incentive and your next log.
- 250 Books! You did it! Come to the library to receive your prize of a free book. There will be a yearly celebration for finishers.
Reading 250 books may seem like a lofty goal, but it is possible! Ask library staff for recommendations - we all want you to succeed on your reading journey!
