The McHenry Public Library is currently accepting applications for a short-term appointment and seeking nominations for the upcoming Consolidated Election
on April 1, 2025. 

 

Are you passionate about your local library and looking for ways to make a meaningful impact in your community? Consider becoming a volunteer trustee! As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in hiring the library director, establishing policies, securing funding, approving budgets, and advocating for the library's long-term success. Join us in shaping the future of our library through engaging in monthly meetings and ongoing educational opportunities.

The Board of Trustees' regular monthly meetings are on the third Tuesday of every month. Special Meetings may be scheduled periodically throughout the year to conduct Library business.

Library District Trustee Qualifications per Public Library District Act of 1991

        • The candidate is a qualified elector of the library district.
        • The candidate must have resided in the library district for at least one year before filing papers to be presented to be appointed or filing a nomination petition (packet).
        • A candidate is not eligible to serve if they are in arrears in the payment of tax or other indebtedness due to the library district.
        • The candidate is not eligible if they have been convicted of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony.

Appointment Process

The McHenry Public Library District has one trustee position vacant and is looking for qualified members to serve on the Board. The Board President will nominate a candidate for this position, subject to the approval of the full Board. 

The terms for the positions are as follows:

            • Six-year unexpired term (The person appointed will serve until the next consolidated election in April 2025. At that time, a successor will be elected to serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends in 2029. Those who are appointed are eligible to run for the position.)

The Board will review all applications at an upcoming Meeting and select candidates to proceed to the in-person interview stage.

 

2025 Trustee Election Information

Elections for the Library Board of Trustees will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, during the Consolidated Elections. Four seats will be on the ballot for this election cycle.

 

The terms for the positions are as follows:

  • Six-year unexpired term (remaining 4-years of the term and serves until 2029)
  • Six-year unexpired term (remaining 4-years of the term and serves until 2029)
  • Six-year expired term (full 6-year term and serves until 2031)
  • Six-year expired term (full 6-year term and serves until 2031)
